Today we volunteered at the festival in Yilan. When watching the video I was in awe of the amount of people who come together and work to make the festival a success. I could tell that the workers really cared about the kids. The guy I was working with, Tim, spent all day just watching the kids come into the entrance of the playground, pulling on the rope if they need help, and telling the young kids to go through a different entrance. Despite the monotonous work, he maintains his enthusiasm throughout the day. Just watching the kids seems to give him energy and life. He says the work here doesn't pay very well, and yet they had to go through many rounds of testing and training. I admire the spirit and dedication of these workers. They really care about Yilan and the children there.
It was also nice to see the dances from people all over the world. Every group was very unique. It is really amazing how people all over the world would come to a place that was once mostly farmland and not very populated. This really is a great opportunity for the people, especially the children in Yilan. I am very grateful to have the chance to participate in this festival.
